BD-6

The BD-6 was first tested and flown in 1974. It is a high wing, all metal, single place aircraft. It incorporated the same Hirth engine that was intended for the BD-5 with a 2-1-belt reduction drive. The prototype N6BD accumulated about 160 hours before it was caught in the flood of 1993, in St. Louis, MO. The prototype is slowly going through restoration. Plans are being developed on the computer and are approximately 80 percent complete. The BD-6 is simple and great fun to fly. It is very similar to the BD-17 in overall size, but requires more man-hours to build. Only a basic information kit is available at this time. When the project is totally complete, the plans and parts may become available.

We have completed the BD-6 drawings on the CAD system and are going to make complete BD-6 material Kits available. The BD-6 is truly a fun sport airplane and will meet the new sport category requirements. It is one of the simplest, lowest cost homebuilts available.

UPDATE: 1/29/2010

The BD-6 plans are available now! You can order them online. The two engines we recommend are the 60 HP HKS or 80 HP Jabiru. All parts are available for the BD-6 now. The BD-6 utilizes many of the parts from either the BD-4 or the BD-17. If you are looking for a low cost single place aircraft then the BD-6 is for you! However, if time is an issue you many want to take a look at the BD-17.
